2021 Hualien Art Exhibition

“Hualien Art Exhibition” has gone through a quarter of a century since Cultural Affairs Bureau, Hualien organized it in 1995. From 2016, it broke away from the framework of local art exhibitions and transformed into a national competition. In 2018, it proposed to be based in the county to fit the work of Hualien, the texture of the land. In order to respond to the spirit of the times and encourage artistic creation, the“Hualien Art Exhibition”never ceases to broaden the horizons of Hualien's fine arts.

In order to further broaden the international horizons, enhance the influence and professionalism of the art world, the “2021 Hualien Art Exhibition” breaks the geographical and nationality restrictions for the first time and expands it into an international solicitation. The solicited works also break through the media classification and size framework. There are no limited themes, and contestants are encouraged to directly or indirectly reflect their personal Hualien experience and opinions in their own creations.

The six works shortlisted for this year's exhibition are “A Faint Noise” by Yu-Ting Wang, “Homecoming Letter (Notes)” by Yu-Song Wang, “Dunku Asang (Hillside Witch’s Memory)” by Gieh-Wen Lin, “He Might Be Available, But in a Flat Domain” by Chih-Chi Tsai, “Wind-Blown” by Hui-Ying Tsai, “23.97704, 121.60327” by Chin-Chih Lai. The morphologies of the shortlisted works are rich and diverse, which not only fully reflect the organic characteristics of contemporary life, but also interpret the rich and unique artistic language of the new generation of creators between the natural environment and the dimensions of humanity and technology.
