The development history of sculpture in Taiwan is diverse and complex, from breaking out of the craftsmanship framework during the Japanese occupation to gradually develop an artistic expression with more personal style. After the war, Taiwan was stimulated by Western modernism, and the domestic sculptors try to shift from realism to imagery modern sculpture. The exhibition hopes to present how those sculptors gaze at the local life and spirit, combining eastern philosophy with western modern thinking, perseverant-ly breaking through the limitations of media or shape to model the unique spiritual appearance of Taiwan sculpture.

In response to the "2020 Hualien International Stone Sculpture Festival” event, to promote and highlight the importance of local sculptors in Taiwan,Taiwan Soka Association (TSA) bases on their collections to exhibit nearly 30 masterpieces made by eight domestic masters of stone sculpture, including Pu Tian-Sheng, Qiu Yun, Chen Ting-Shih,Yuyu Yang, Li Tzai-chian, Kuo Ching-jyh, Mao C. Lee, Kao Tsan-Hsing, etc. They use materials d such as stainless steel, pottery, bronze, iron, plaster and so forth to present diverse forms and profound creative expressions which leads the development of contemporary sculpture and public art in Taiwan, and influences deeply the development of Taiwanese art today. You are invited to join in such a grand event and enjoy together the unique and once-in-a-lifetime art feast of the master sculptors in this period.
