A brief introduction of the facility:

The hall is an early Japanese-style wooden weatherboard structure with a historical value. It used to be the residence of Kuo Tze-Chiu, the Father of Music in HuaLien. Kuo is a legendary musician. He was born in 1919. Although Kuo had only received education in an elementary school, he made his way to become an established musician. He was a prolific musician and had created lots of music works in his life. When he was young, he came to HuaLien from PingTung and started his career of music creation. His works were well-known to everyone in HuaLien. Some of his music pieces have become representative Taiwanese choruses such as “Your Coming”, “Memory”, “Expecting the River Water to Become Clean”,” The Song of Waterwheel” and so on. Kuo used to teach music at HuaLien Middle School and many school alumni still take delight in talking about his unique music teaching method of “lalala”. In his later years, Kuo actively took part in local art and culture work, helped establish The Promotion Association of HuaLien International Art Village, and dedicated himself in the lifting of the art and culture standards of HuaLien. Kuo's music life didn't end with his death as many people in HuaLien are still very familiar with the music he created. Kuo Tze-Chiu Music Culture Hall is a music story-themed facility, where audio activities are organized to turn it into a garden of music culture unique to eastern Taiwan.

The planning of Kuo Tze-Chiu Music Culture Hall has two directions. The first is the facilities related to exhibition, performance, management and experience to highlight the functionality of space, which can be divided into four parts - “community interaction”, “experiencing activities”, “space management”and“Art and culture exhibition and performance”. The second is the repair and renovation of Kuo's residence so that the original state of house can be preserved to create a feeling that Kuo has just gone out for a walk. This is to stress both Kuo's daily-life stories and his dedication to music creation in the hope that the possibly tangible stories happening at the intersection of space and time could be grabbed to usher in the experience learning by entering a living theater, and to preserve all the details and turn them into stories. In terms of management, total space accommodation control is insisted on to ensure the combination of the music and culture experiences and create “the respect for culture” as a new Taiwanese recreational model.
